TURKISH DIVORCE & FAMILY LAW • INTERNATIONAL CLIENTS
How should an overseas service deadline be calculated?
Start with the legal nature of the document, the valid service event and the applicable procedural rules. Posting date, email receipt and official service date may differ. Obtain case-specific advice promptly; a guessed universal response period can misstate the time available.

Legal context
A Turkish connection does not answer every international-divorce question.
The place of marriage, each spouse’s nationality, domicile and habitual residence, the last shared home, the location of children and assets, and any proceedings already started abroad must be placed on one timeline. Turkish international jurisdiction and the law applicable to divorce are separate questions; custody, maintenance and matrimonial property may require additional analysis.
If a Turkish case is appropriate, the petition must identify the legal route, requested orders, addresses and lawful evidence. When the other spouse lives abroad, the service method and translation requirements can affect the response period, hearing date and finality. Informal notice through a message is not a substitute for valid judicial service.

Why is the respondent’s complete address important?
A workable address supports lawful international service and case planning. Include country, locality and relevant address details, distinguishing residence from an old contact address. A phone number or social-media profile may help contact but does not automatically replace a formal service address.
Describe the last verified address, dates and lawful sources of current information. The court must assess the appropriate procedural route; substituted or public notice cannot simply be chosen for convenience. Do not invent an address to accelerate filing or service.
Refusal and valid service are different questions. The effect depends on the applicable service route, official records and the recipient state’s rules. Preserve the attempted-service documentation; a party’s statement that they refused papers does not alone establish the procedural result.
For clients in the UK, the United States and other English-speaking countries, familiar labels can conceal different legal effects. A final divorce order, a financial order and a parenting arrangement should be identified separately. The place of marriage alone does not decide jurisdiction or the applicable law. Planning begins with the result required in Türkiye and the result required abroad.
