A usable address is part of the case plan
Tell counsel where your spouse actually lives and how that information was obtained. A Turkish registered address and an overseas habitual residence can differ. Provide previous addresses, relevant dates and any existing foreign proceeding. Marriage in Turkey or Turkish nationality alone does not settle jurisdiction. The lawyer needs the residence and nationality history to assess the court and applicable law.
International service is a formal step
Court documents may need translation and transmission through the applicable international-service route. The destination country and treaty framework matter. A WhatsApp message, an informal email or sending a petition to a relative is not automatically valid judicial service. If the address is genuinely unknown, lawful enquiries and the statutory alternatives must be assessed rather than inventing an address.
Plan participation and the later use of the judgment
Valid service protects defence rights and can affect recognition abroad. Counsel can handle many procedural acts through an appropriate power of attorney, but uncontested divorce under Civil Code Article 166/3 requires the judge to hear both spouses personally. Any attendance arrangement must be settled with the court. Finality and the use of the Turkish judgment in another country are separate from obtaining a hearing date.
Questions about this procedure
Can I use a relative’s address just to speed up service?
Use accurate information and let counsel assess the lawful service route. An unreliable address can delay proceedings and jeopardize the judgment’s later use.
