Canada’s Apostille Convention entry into force was 11 January 2024. For a Canadian document, the competent authority still depends on the document and relevant provincial or federal arrangements. Check the current route before ordering authentication.
Apostilles, provincial records and Turkish legal needs
For divorce, identify the province, court, judgment and proof that the divorce is final. A divorce judgment and a certificate used to prove status may not contain the same information. The Turkish route depends on whether you need civil registration, recognition or enforcement of an obligation.
Prepare the Turkish part of the matter
For an inheritance, identify the deceased’s nationality, the province involved in any estate process and the Turkish assets. A Canadian probate or administration document does not automatically transfer a Turkish apartment or release every bank account. Connect the family records and distinguish estate administration from the separate Turkish asset procedure.
A practical plan from where you live
Canada spans several time zones. Choose your actual city or time zone when requesting a consultation and give a preferred local time. For a power of attorney, check wording and form before notarisation. Authentication is not a cure for missing authority, and a scan may not replace the original required in Turkey.
What to include in your first enquiry
State your country of residence, the legal issue in Turkey and any known deadline. If there is a judgment, identify the issuing authority and whether it is final. If property or an estate is involved, give only a general description at this stage. Do not send identity numbers, banking credentials or sensitive allegations in the public form. Formal documents are reviewed through an agreed channel after scope and authority are clarified.
Plan documents from your country · Canada
Your country of residence, the document’s country of issue and the location of the Turkish matter may differ. State all three.
- Issuing bodies to identify
- Federal / provincial / territorial issuing authority
- Document examples to distinguish
- Court order · vital record · notarised authority
- Check before ordering
- Confirm the exact issuing body, full document, intended Turkish use and any finality record. Have the required copy, translation and authentication route checked before paying for replacements.

Contact and scope
Initial communication is available in Turkish and English. Tell us if you need interpretation. The written scope should distinguish document review, procedural representation, translation, official fees and delivery.
Your first-review planDocument preparation from Canada
Identify the province or federal issuer for each Canadian document. Consult the official Canadian authentication guidance and the current HCCH authority information before ordering an apostille. Separate a divorce judgment from any certificate of divorce and identify what the Turkish institution requests. For an estate, record the Canadian proceeding and each known Turkish asset separately.
Turn the document list into a work plan
For each document, note the issuer, date, original or copy status and the Turkish step it supports. Mark missing evidence and any notification or hearing date. Agree the wording of authority before the appointment, then confirm translation and delivery. The first conversation can identify these steps without assuming that every official act is available remotely.

Can this process be handled while you live abroad?
An initial review can take place from Canada. Many Turkish procedural steps may be handled under suitable authority. Personal hearings, notarial appointments, banking or registry requirements may still require attendance. This page does not describe an office or foreign-law practice in Canada.

Read the relevant current rules and institutional requirements. General guidance may not resolve a specific case; official Turkish texts govern where a translated explanation differs.
