Medical Tourism Claims in Turkey: Records, Responsibility and Compensation
A practical file guide for overseas patients after cosmetic surgery, hair transplantation or dental treatment in Turkey.
Define the problem before naming the claim
An unexpected outcome, an alleged complication, inadequate information and negligent treatment raise different questions. Photographs alone cannot establish fault or a compensation amount. Identify the promised treatment, the actual intervention, the follow-up and the loss. Keep the medical issues separate from the payment and contract history.
Request a complete treatment record
Prepare the discharge report, operative or procedure notes, consent documents, prescriptions, imaging and dated original photographs. Add later examinations and revision proposals as separate events. Save the quotation, advertising, invoices, transfers and communications. Document travel expenses and any claimed loss of work with supporting records, rather than estimates presented as established losses.
Identify each provider's role
Record the treating clinician, facility, contracting party, payment recipient and any intermediary. Public and private providers may require different procedural analysis. Turkey's 2025 medical tourism regulation addresses standards, authorisation and supervision within its scope; it does not itself establish the outcome of an individual damages claim. Patient rights and the information actually given also require examination.
Plan an overseas case review
Organise a chronology and specify the desired remedy before preparing formal steps. Representation, certified documents and translations depend on the procedure. An administrative complaint, compensation claim and criminal allegation are not interchangeable. Time limits must be assessed using the treatment dates, discovery of harm, parties and legal basis. No single deadline or guaranteed recovery should be assumed.
Questions
Does signing consent prevent a claim?
A signature does not answer every question. The actual information, intervention, records and alleged harm must be examined together.
