English centre / Consumer arbitration committees in Türkiye
How the issue is assessed
In 2026, consumer disputes below TRY 186,000 fall within the consumer arbitration committee route. Claims at or above that amount cannot be decided by these committees. The claim’s value, consumer status and remedy must be established before filing. Applications can be submitted personally or through a lawyer, by hand, post or electronically through TÜBİS with the necessary e-government access. Oral complaints do not constitute an application.
Documents to prepare
Identity and address details, seller’s legal name, a clear requested remedy, value calculation and numbered supporting documents.
Key distinctions and deadlines
Do not artificially split a claim to fit the annual threshold. Committee proceedings are distinct from commercial arbitration. Foreign residents should assess available submission channels rather than assume they must have e-Devlet access.
Preparing a focused claim
- Record what was promised, what happened and the dates of each event.
- Identify the legal person named in the agreement and the recipient of payment.
- Preserve the original records and organise exhibits in date order.
- State the requested remedy and explain each item in the amount claimed.
- Check jurisdiction and deadlines before filing; a message to a business does not automatically stop procedural time limits.
Committee or court?
For a qualifying consumer dispute in 2026, the committee threshold is below TRY 186,000. At or above this amount, assess the consumer court route, mandatory mediation and statutory exceptions. The classification of the transaction must be established first; private sales and public healthcare disputes can require a different route.
Can I act from abroad?
Discuss representation, service of documents and the necessary power of attorney. Where documents are in another language, the translation requirements depend on the intended filing. Avoid assuming a website inquiry is a formal application.
How legal assistance works
A consultation can examine the contract, chronology, evidence and possible remedies. Representation and any expert or translation costs are agreed for the actual scope of work. Sending an inquiry does not itself create representation or file a claim.
