01 / LEGAL PREPARATION

Build a medical and incident chronology

Record the accident, emergency attendance, treatment, follow-up and periods away from work. Medical records establish health facts; the connection with the accident must also be explained. Keep the official incident file and relevant photographs or witness information with the medical chronology.

02 / LEGAL PREPARATION

Separate temporary absence from lasting effects

A period of treatment-related absence and a lasting reduction in working capacity are different issues. A diagnosis or percentage on one report is not a complete compensation calculation. The appropriate assessment, report basis and other evidence depend on the incident and claim.

03 / LEGAL PREPARATION

Support the income impact

Employees may use payroll and employment records. Self-employed people may need tax, invoice and activity records. Compare evidence before and after the event and distinguish income changes caused by the accident from unrelated changes. Identify previous insurer or social-security payments.

04 / LEGAL PREPARATION

Map each request to its liable party

Vehicle damage, income loss, medical or care expenses and other claimed losses should be listed separately. Insurance cover and other responsible parties must be assessed for each item. If the event occurred during work or employer transport, social-security and employment-law questions may also arise.

05 / LEGAL PREPARATION

Medical records need an event timeline

Start with the accident and record emergency attendance, diagnosis, treatment, discharge, follow-up appointments and any documented period away from work. A hospital record may establish an injury but still leave questions about its connection with the incident or later effects. Compare the medical timeline with the official accident or investigation file. Where an incident account is incomplete, note what photographs, witness information or other records exist. Do not merge a later unrelated health event into the accident claim without explaining its relevance. A complete chronology is useful to both medical and legal reviewers: it shows what was recorded contemporaneously, what developed later and where the evidence is missing. The lawyer’s assessment concerns the claim and supporting material; the medical findings must come from appropriate medical records and professional assessment.

06 / LEGAL PREPARATION

Temporary incapacity and lasting consequences

Time away from work during recovery and a lasting reduction in capacity involve different evidence and questions. For the recovery period, identify the dates and the actual effect on work and income. For lasting consequences, review the appropriate medical assessment, its method, basis and relationship to the accident. A percentage on a report cannot be detached from those matters and treated as a complete compensation calculation. Continuing treatment and recovery may also affect when a reliable assessment can be made. Keep earlier reports as well as later ones so that changes can be understood. The type of work, income evidence, fault, previous payments and relevant insurance cover may all require consideration. An online estimate can illustrate assumptions, but it does not determine the medical evidence or establish what an insurer or another liable party must ultimately pay.

07 / LEGAL PREPARATION

Income evidence for employees and independent workers

For an employee, assemble payroll, employment and absence records that show the position before and after the accident. Identify payments that continued during absence and any other relevant benefit or payment record. For an independent worker, turnover alone may not explain personal income loss. Tax records, invoices, contracts, activity history and evidence of interruption may help show the claimed effect. Separate accident-related changes from ordinary business variation. If the work is irregular or records are incomplete, explain the gaps rather than simply selecting a monthly income figure. Keep the calculation assumptions visible so that they can be reviewed. This evidence exercise does not mean every requested sum is recoverable: entitlement, responsible parties, insurance cover and the treatment of other payments must still be assessed for the individual case.

08 / LEGAL PREPARATION

A hypothetical motorcycle file: separate the loss items

Suppose a motorcycle rider receives treatment for a fracture and the motorcycle is also repaired. Create separate entries for the vehicle repair, possible market loss, documented income effect and any relevant medical or care expense. Associate each entry with its report, invoice or other evidence. If there is no complete accident report, identify the police or investigation record and the other available incident evidence. A repair invoice does not establish bodily injury loss, and a medical report does not value the motorcycle. The same approach helps when one insurer communication appears to address only part of the claim. Determine what was actually submitted and what was actually paid or refused. This is a hypothetical preparation exercise; it does not predict a disability finding, an insurer’s decision or the final amount in a real rider’s case.

09 / LEGAL PREPARATION

Work accidents, other cover and previous payments

An incident during work, a delivery activity or transport arranged by an employer may require examination of social-security and employment-law issues alongside private insurance. Establish the actual activity and relationship rather than assuming that every road accident is classified alike. Identify relevant employer, driver, vehicle operator and insurer roles separately. Keep benefit decisions, payment records and policy documents with the medical file. Payments need to be labelled by the loss they concern so that overlap can be assessed. A social-security decision and an insurance expert report may answer different questions and should not automatically be substituted for one another. The combined case map should state which request is directed to which party or institution. This preserves a clear distinction between the available routes while allowing documents concerning the same event to be compared.
