Using medical reports obtained outside Türkiye
Using medical reports obtained outside Türkiye. Practical preparation for a Turkish legal claim when you live abroad.
Obtain findings rather than a slogan
A report should identify its author, examination date, available records, objective findings and reasoning. “The treatment was wrong” without a clinical explanation is less useful than a documented assessment of the specific problem and proposed correction.
Keep the source materials
Preserve the full report, original imaging files, invoices and the records examined by the author. Screenshots or translated extracts can omit context. A report from a later date should identify what was observed then and which conclusions concern the earlier intervention.
Translation and expert review
Translation and document formalities depend on the authority and proceeding. A foreign treating doctor’s opinion can assist case preparation but does not automatically bind a Turkish court. The need for court-appointed expert assessment and the questions to be answered remain separate issues.
A structured handover
Create an index linking each report to the treatment chronology. Distinguish new treatment costs already paid from estimates. Include any limitations the author states. This makes the claim easier to evaluate without turning an initial clinical opinion into a guaranteed finding of negligence.
