TURKISH NAME AND CIVIL STATUS LAW

Nüfus register extracts and Formül A, B, C

Foreign authorities may use different descriptions for Turkish civil-status documents. A full population register extract and an international birth extract are not interchangeable. The exact request determines what to obtain.

A Turkish population register extract

Nüfus Kayıt Örneği reproduces information from the register. The scope and explanatory annotations should fit the intended use. Some foreign procedures require a full extract including relevant changes and nationality details. Check what must appear rather than assuming that a short individual extract will answer every request.

Distinguish Formül A, B and C

Formül A concerns birth, Formül B marriage and Formül C death. These multilingual extracts document particular civil-status events. They do not necessarily replace a comprehensive population register extract. Turkish consular guidance describes their availability through missions in the relevant member countries of the civil-status commission.

e-Devlet documents and use abroad

NVI states that population register documents obtained through e-Devlet have the same legal value as the corresponding documents obtained from the population authorities. The foreign institution’s requirements for format, certification, translation and recency still need confirmation. The Turkish legal value of a document does not decide every foreign procedural requirement.

Confirm the details before ordering

Ask the receiving institution for the precise document name, annotations needed and any formal requirements. State whether you are a Turkish citizen or a Mavi Kart holder. If historic changes are important, confirm whether former names and nationality events must be shown. A clear written request helps identify the right document on the first application.

Documents for an initial review

This list helps you prepare. Additional evidence depends on your specific matter.

  • The receiving institution’s written document request
  • Identity card or passport
  • Details of the person and relevant family connections
  • Information about current nationality or Mavi Kart status
  • Earlier extracts if historic information needs comparison

Frequently asked questions

Is Formül B a full population register extract?

No. It is an international marriage extract and has a different purpose and scope.

Can an e-Devlet extract be used abroad?

NVI confirms its Turkish legal value, but the foreign receiving institution’s format requirements must also be checked.

Does every extract need translation?

That depends on document type, applicable arrangements and the receiving institution’s requirements.
