A short-term residence permit in Turkey must be supported by a genuine, legally recognised reason for staying. Tourism, property ownership, business contacts and medical treatment require different evidence. A rental contract alone does not establish eligibility.
Legal requirements and important distinctions
Identify the purpose before selecting a category in e-İkamet. Explain the proposed duration, accommodation and means of support consistently. Owning a property and seeking citizenship through investment are separate assessments. A permit does not generally authorise work, and the maximum period allowed by law is not a promise that every application will receive that period.
Documents and practical preparation
Compare passport details with your insurance, address and application record. Keep evidence that directly supports the stated purpose, such as a treatment plan or property record where applicable. Follow the personalised official checklist rather than assuming that another applicant's documents will suffice. A refusal, expiry or existing entry restriction requires a separate assessment before applying again.

Frequently asked questions
Does a rental contract guarantee tourist residence?
No. Accommodation is one part of the file; the actual purpose of stay and the remaining statutory conditions still require assessment.
General information. It does not replace an assessment of your individual case.
