A decision affecting citizenship acquired through investment must be examined separately from a pending application refusal. The legal basis, decision maker, notification and effects on each family member determine the response. Residence, work permission and deportation can involve additional decisions.
Cancellation, withdrawal and application refusal
Turkish Citizenship Law No. 5901 distinguishes cancellation based on false statements or concealment of material matters under Article 31 from withdrawal under Article 40 where the legal conditions were absent or an acquisition was duplicated. These grounds should not be treated as interchangeable. A criminal investigation, an allegation about an investment or the start of an administrative review is not itself proof that every affected person has finally lost citizenship.
Obtain both the original acquisition decision and the later act. Establish which facts are attributed to the applicant and what the authority says about the investment, payment, valuation or submitted records. A newspaper headline or informal list cannot replace the personal decision and its notification.
Reconstruct the investment file
Keep the purchase agreement, land-register records, valuation, payment transfers, conformity documentation and relevant citizenship application records. Identify the parties and dates rather than submitting a bundle without explanation. A payment issue, property eligibility issue and an allegedly false civil-status record raise different factual questions.
Where identity, translation or representation is disputed, compare the original documents with those actually filed. A later document should explain what it proves about the earlier transaction. Do not assume a replacement purchase or a new passport automatically resolves the grounds of the previous decision.

Spouse and children
Article 32 addresses the consequences of cancellation, including for a spouse or children whose acquisition depended on the affected decision. The basis on which each person acquired citizenship must therefore be checked individually. An independently acquired nationality or another family member’s status should not be inferred solely from the main applicant’s record.
Prepare each person’s acquisition and identity records, current location, passports and any separate residence status. School, health, custody and dependency documents may matter to subsequent immigration assessment. Family circumstances should be explained with evidence rather than a single general statement that everyone has the same position.
Court procedure and jurisdiction
Identify the issuing authority before selecting the court. Presidential acts and other administrative decisions do not necessarily have the same first-instance court. Notification and the applicable procedural rules determine the deadline; an administrative enquiry should not be assumed to stop every time limit. A request for interim relief must address its own legal conditions.
The case should distinguish the factual record from the legal grounds for challenging the decision. Keep proof of filing and every later notification. A favourable court result must be read for its scope and administrative implementation rather than treated as resolving all connected immigration decisions.
Residence, work and separate removal decisions
Loss of citizenship does not answer every question about lawful presence. Assess any available residence route, current documents and the effect on employment separately. Filing a citizenship case alone is not a residence or work permit. Avoid a gap in monitoring the documents of spouse and children while the principal case proceeds.
If a deportation or detention decision is also issued, obtain it immediately and assess its separate remedy. Deportation has its own short statutory challenge period; detention has a different judicial route. Challenging only the citizenship decision does not automatically challenge those acts.
Preparing a first consultation
Provide a dated summary of the acquisition, investment, later enquiries, decision and notification. Explain where each family member is now and which documents remain valid. The first review can identify missing records, relevant procedures and the scope of representation. Fees, translations and original-document requirements are agreed for the actual work involved.
